I have an HDR in mind for this weeks screencast and I need some shooting time. So we are mixing things up and the next video will be out on Thursday. Anyway, I thought it was about time we had another little competition.

You asked for them and now they are here! Last week I finished a set of 30 (14×11) Auto-Page Templates for Storybook Album Designer v6. There 15 templates on a white background and 15 on a black and they make full use of the new vector based apertures that I introduced to Storybook last week.

I thought I would pose a question this week. Should you ask permission to photograph people in public places? I have posted an image or two after the jump to get the discussion going and I will be interested to hear what you think!

I am currently bringing back to life old photos from when I used to shoot film. So this week I thought it would be cool to follow up on how I setup my graphics tablet and show you how I use on a 35mm film scan. If like me you have a bunch of old neg’s in need of scanning. Then this will give you a great workflow for retouching a Tiff image in Adobe Camera RAW and Photoshop.

My good friend Peter Ellis describes wedding photography as “an all day portrait session at 100mph” and he is not wrong. Following on from the Location Scouting for Photographers post last week. I thought I would talk about how I plan for a wedding. my basic shooting list, and my thought process in relation to the post production and the Photoshop side of things, whilst I am shooting the wedding.

This weeks screencast is a bit of a departure from my normal Lightroom and Photoshop tutorials as I thought now was the time to do a video all about the Wacom Tablet. In this screencast I will guide you through my setup and how best to fine tune your own Bamboo or Intuos tablet for use with Adobe Photoshop.

I was reading an article the other day and the 2nd point was about “Location Scouting”. Which in my view photographers don’t do enough of especially if they rely on those locations because they do not have a studio. So I am going to give you some invaluable tips for a good location session which can be applied whether you shoot for fun or shoot for a living.

If you follow my screencasts regularly, then you will know I am a big fan of adding a little vignetting (darkening of the corners) to my images. Heck! I even created a whole series of actions called the “Vignette Maker” just for Photoshop. But what if you want to create a vignette non-destructively in Lightroom or ACR? Yes, I know we can all do that with the post-crop vignette. No brainer! Ah, but what if you want to off-set the vignette? Watch the screencast after the jump for the work around.

In this penultimate screencast of the series, I show you how to setup the guides, grids and slice preferences. I have been in here a lot of late whilst creating Storybook Album Designer v6. But you will probably only visit this preference once in a blue moon.

Inspiration is a wonderful tool for making better pictures. So check out these photographers for lighting, composition, subject, theme, expression, colour, post-processing etc. Learn from them and maybe borrow an idea or two, but remember to make those ideas your own… Enjoy!
